Group Cautions Against Downplaying   Principles Of Democracy

Socio-cultural group, Concerned Edo Citizens Forum, COD, has called on Nigerians to protect and promote the doctrines and principles of democracy. 

A statement signed by the Convener, Comrade Roy Oribhabor, and made available to journalists in Benin City, said democracy  remains the best form of government despite the shortcomings in Nigeria.  

He  stated that it has become necessary to call on  Nigerians to protect and promote the doctrines and principles of democracy. The opportunities available with the practice of democracy are overwhelming and profitable.

 Therefore,  all Nigeria must rise up and defend their democratic rights, as  democracy remains the best form of government despite the shortcomings in the country.  

According to him, there are no limitations in democracy, it is  open for all including freedom of speech, rule of law, civil engagement and  the majority determine who manages them in a given time.

Oribhabor called on  Nigerians to continue to support democracy and its doctrines because it  requires the contributions of all .

The group called on leaders  to uphold the tenets of democracy and practice it according to the rules, and avoid what   will undermine it.
