From Rabilu Abubakar, Gombe
Secretary to the Gombe State Government, SSG, Professor Ibrahim Njodi has stressed the need for a deliberate framework to guarantee continuous training and retraining of teachers.
Professor Njodi made the call when he received the Chairperson of the Teachers Service Commission, TSC, Mrs Na’omi Maiguwa, during a courtesy visit in Gombe.
He decried the decline in the quality of education in Nigeria, attributing it to weak policy measures and inadequate support for teachers.
He noted that Governor Inuwa Yahaya had established the Teachers Training Institute in Kwami as part of efforts to institutionalise teacher development.
The SSG urged stakeholders to prioritise quality teaching and learning, while charging TSC to sustain its commitment to produce a motivated and professional workforce.
Earlier, Mrs Maiguwa commended the governor for reappointing her and her team, and for declaring a state of emergency on education.
She also lauded initiatives such as the recruitment of 1,000 teachers and the establishment of the training institute, while appealing for more recruitment to fill the existing gap.
