From Rabilu Abubakar, Gombe
Residents of Jauro Jatau Bypass in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State have appealed to government authorities, politicians and philanthropists to intervene over the prolonged blackout in their community.
The residents disclosed that they have been without electricity since the last Ramadan fasting period due to the absence of a transformer, which has left the area in total darkness for several months.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Muhammad Idris Gargajiga expressed frustration, lamenting that their repeated complaints were dismissed on the grounds that the area has no polling unit.
“It is unfair. About 90 percent of us relocated here from the main city of Gombe, yet we are denied access to electricity. We are pleading with government, political leaders and wealthy individuals to come to our aid and provide a transformer,” Idris said.
According to the residents, the prolonged blackout has crippled social and economic activities, affecting their livelihoods and general wellbeing.
They urged the authorities to act swiftly to restore electricity to the area.
Efforts to get comments from the management of Jos Electricity Distribution Company, JED, responsible for power supply in the community, were unsuccessful.
