Excitement is building ahead of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after organizers officially announced ticket details for what promises to be a groundbreaking Opening Ceremony unlike any in the history of the Games.
Set for July 23, 2026, the spectacular curtain-raiser will take place inside the world-renowned OVO Hydro, marking the first fully indoor Opening Ceremony ever staged at a Commonwealth Games. The innovative production is expected to transform the arena into an electrifying showcase of sport, music, culture and storytelling, officially launching 10 unforgettable days of elite competition across Scotland.
Presented by Longines, the ceremony will welcome athletes from 74 nations and territories, uniting cultures from across the Commonwealth in a celebration of excellence, diversity and global friendship.
Organisers revealed that more than 600 local performers will feature in the production alongside major headline entertainment acts, with the ceremony designed to highlight the creativity, identity and worldwide influence of Glasgow, Scotland and the Commonwealth community.
With global demand expected to be exceptionally high, Glasgow 2026 has introduced a public ticket ballot system to ensure fair access for fans around the world. Registration for the ballot opens Monday, May 18, and closes on May 26. Successful applicants will be selected at random and notified on June 1, ahead of official ticket sales beginning June 2.
Adult ticket prices will range from £45 to £195 across four seating categories, while concession options will also be available.
Chair of Glasgow 2026, George Black, described the ceremony as a defining moment for both the city and the Commonwealth movement.
“The Opening Ceremony marks the moment we welcome athletes from across the Commonwealth to Glasgow. Gathered in the Hydro, we will share a story of how this incredible city has contributed to the world,” he said.
Chief Marketing and Ceremonies Officer Louisa Mahon promised a bold and immersive experience that would redefine expectations for future Games ceremonies.
“For the first time in Commonwealth Games history, we are taking the entire show indoors and transforming the Hydro into a fast-paced, immersive experience packed with energy, surprises and spectacle,” Mahon said.
Audiences can expect world-class live performances, stunning visual effects and the symbolic arrival of all 74 ceremonial Batons representing participating nations and territories.
Executive Producer Tom Davies also teased several surprises, assuring fans that an internationally acclaimed creative team is working to deliver a ceremony capable of captivating audiences across the globe.
