FG Summons Ibom Air Crew, Passenger Over Flight Incident

By Our Reporter

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has summoned an Ibom Air cabin crew member, Juliana Edward, and passenger, Comfort Emmanson, following a recent incident aboard an Ibom Air flight.

This was disclosed by the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Michael Achimugu, during a question-and-answer session at the Emergency National Civil Aviation Security Committee and Stakeholders’ Meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja.

“I have spoken with Ms. Emmanson this morning. We are also inviting the Ibom Air cabin crew for continued investigation on the incident. They will be here tomorrow,” Achimugu said.

He clarified that contrary to speculations, the pilot did not call in security personnel upon landing in Lagos, explaining that the issue appeared to have been resolved mid-flight. According to him, Emmanson, who went to the restroom after landing, was eventually the last passenger to disembark from the aircraft.

Achimugu further assured that the NCAA was committed to “uncovering all the facts surrounding the incident” as part of its mandate to ensure safety, order, and consumer protection within Nigeria’s aviation sector.

In his reaction, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Buhari Abdulfatai, linked the rise in unruly behavior within the aviation sector to a “general decline in discipline among passengers, airport staff and crew.”

The development comes at a time when the NCAA has issued a new directive mandating that all mobile phones must be completely switched off during take-off and landing, in line with global aviation safety standards.
