Fear Grips Asaba residents Over Robbery Upsurge, Alleged Killings

Residents of Asaba, Delta State have continued to live in the fear of the unknown following the upsurge of robbery activities including alleged killings of persons in the recent times

Findings are that virtually all parts of Asaba, its environs have been witnessing the palpable fear of the unknown that had been orchestrated by armed robbers who during nightfall in their Operations, unleash terrior on their victims especially housewives alleged to be raped. Though various security agencies, particularly the police and vigilante Operatives have intensified efforts to ensure that the activities of the robbers are confined to history, but their efforts seemed to have met brick walls.

SP Bright Edafe, the Police Spokesman in the state who confirmed the upsurge of robbery activities in Asaba, its environs, said that the Police Operatives are committed with a view to ensuring that those behind the activities are brought to checks, disclosing that from January to date, no fewer than seventy five suspects were arrested for alleged robberies and kidnappings adding that many of the suspects were arraigned in court and sentenced accordingly after being found guilty by the law.

The situation, has however been followed by hue and cry by residents in call to various security agencies to check the activities of Criminals in Asaba, its environs especially during nightfall

Investigation revealed that during the week, some armed robbers attacked a compound located in Adaeze farm road, around Federal Road Safety Commission ( FRSC) axis of Asaba where they reportedly carted away property worth millions of naira. But in an interview, one of the victims, Mr Ayodele Samuel, who was still in shock over the incident, said that he and his wife were awake all through the night until about 2am before they went to bed, adding that at about 3am, the armed robbers , who must have find their way into the compound through the fence, broke into their house through the window and made away with some belongings such as their phones, laptops, money and ATM cards and also transferred some amount of money from his account via hacking. He said that he had been able to block his account to avoid further withdrawal and reported the matter to the police at Asaba B Division police station. Other residents who spoke, said that after robbing them successfully in an attempt to rob other neighbours, there was alarm which forced them to flee from the compound

On the alleged rape of housewives, further investigation revealed that during nightfall the armed robbers allegedly descend on their victims to submission at gunpoint after which their victims are left with shouting and calls for helps including several injuries inflicted on them. On the alleged killings, the Police Spokesman, SP Bright Edafe has attributed the act to various cult groups who in the recent times have been involved in rivalry clashes disclosing that the police are determined to ensure that residents can sleep with their eyes closed. He warned against parents who not bothered about unholy activities of their children adding that it will no longer be business as usual especially with new strategies enforced the brings hoodlums to book in their operational base
