Senate has set up an ad-hoc committee to seek the opinions of senators on the Electoral Act, 2022 (Repeal and Enactment) Bill.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced this yesterday after a closed door session.

The lawmakers had, in the executive session, begun the consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters chaired by Senator Simon Lalong.

The closed session was convened to allow lawmakers thoroughly examine the proposed amendments and supporting documents before engaging in further legislative debate on the bill.

Making the announcement, Akpabio said: “The Senate has set up a small committee to make contributions, galvanise, distill all the opinions of senators and present them to us for final deliberation on Tuesday.

“Senator Niyi Adegbonmire will serve as Chairman, while the members are Senators Adamu Aliero, Aminu Tambuwal, Adams Oshiomhole, Danjuma Goje, Tony Nwoye and Titus Zam.

“The committee has 48 hours, or at most three days, within which to conclude its assignment and refer to the Senate before our next plenary, which comes up on Tuesday.

“The clerk of the Senate will be the secretary of this committee.”
