FROM IKHILI EBALU, BENIN CITY
National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Edo State Command arrested two suspected drug traffickers during a walk against trafficking.
The suspects were reportedly arrested along Ihama road in Benin City.
The NDLEA Commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, who disclosed this to journalists, said the suspects were apprehended while participating in the march through major streets of Benin to commemorate the 2025 World Day Against Trafficking.
He said in the course of the walk through Benin, we apprehended two drug traffickers. They will face prosecution in line with the law.
“NDLEA had arrested five drug traffickers the previous week. They are already undergoing court proceedings to face justice.
“This sends a strong warning to those involved in drug and human traffickers; they can run, but we will eventually catch them,” he declared.
According to him, “Every step we took today symbolises action toward eliminating social vices across Nigeria and building a safer and more responsible society.”
The awareness event was organised by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, to commemorate the day with the theme, “Human Trafficking is organised crime, end the exploitation.”
Ofoyeju added that human and drug trafficking are interconnected and represented dangerous forms of organised crime.
He described the crimes as highly profitable ventures that lure many people into criminal networks driven by greed and lack of conscience.
