FROM IKHILI EBALU, BENIN CITY
Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Edo State, Mrs Edesili Okpebholo Anani, has generously settled the medical bills of a baby detained at St Philomena Hospital in Benin City.
The baby’s parents, Mr Saviour Sunday and Mrs Beauty Sunday, from Akwa Ibom State, were unable to pay the outstanding bill of N1.4 million.
AljazirahNigeria gathered that the couple had been referred from one hospital to another, incurring significant medical expenses for their premature baby boy, born on May 29.
Anani condemned the inhumane treatment the couple faced due to their inability to pay and emphasized that such situation will not be tolerated in Edo State.
Anani who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Government House, Mrs Edith Sede, stressed that the life of every child matters and should not be toyed with.
The couple, who had paid N200,000 and received a donation of N70,000, were unable to cover the remaining balance. Sunday, a recent civil service recruit, and her husband, a barman, were overwhelmed by the medical expenses.
They appreciated the intervention of the coordinator, Office of the First Lady for her motherly love and kind gesture.
The couple has been reunited with their baby, and the medical bills have been settled. This act of kindness has brought relief to the family during a challenging time.
