Ebonyi State government has banned graduation party in pre-nursery, nursery and primary schools.

Commissioner for Education, Donatus Ilang made this known in a statement made available to newsmen in Abakaliki.

Ilang stated that graduation party is exclusively reserved for  students who  successfully completed junior secondary education (JSS3) and Senior Secondary School (SS3), hence banned nursery and primary school from holding graduation party.

He noted that the state  also approved a unified textbook which, according to him, would last for four years before review, adding that writing text inside textbooks is strictly prohibited.

The commissioner explained that the state equally introduced entrepreneurship and vocational subject, and made them mandatory, as students of basic education and Senior Secondary School 3 must receive their certificate on graduation.

He noted that it is unlawful to organise compulsory lesson for pupils and students except on a condition where  agreement is reached with parents and teachers or managers.

He  said the state government  also banned  grading based on position, as it only recognise first, second and third positions, while others should be graded as pass or fail, stressing that students who fail  should be made to repeat the class.

He directed parents whose wards are in unapproved faith-based schools to withdraw their children to government owned school as they would be shutdown on  resumption, while urging principals to desist from admitting students who failed to present their First School Leaving Certificate, FSCL.
