Delta Govt To Collaborate With FG On Moral Values

Date:

From Owen Akenzua, Asaba

Delta State government has reiterated its commitment to to collaborate with federal agencies to promote moral values and attitudinal change among the citizenry.

Executive Assistant to the governor on Communication and Head of State Orientation Bureau, Latimore Oghenesivbe gave the assurance when he played host to the Director of the National Orientation Agency, NOA, Mrs Tracy Ikolomi, in his office in Asaba.

Oghenesivwe disclosed that barely six months ago when he took over the mantle of leadership, the Bureau had collaborated with critical federal agencies including the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and both institutions have agreed to address incidents of drug abuse by youths

He disclosed that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration had taken a bold step to rehabilitate victims of drug abuse by establishing a rehabilitation centre at Kwale in Ndokwa West Local Government Area for youths who courageously denounced drug abuse.

He equally explained that because of the interest that the governor has for youths, the state government would float a health scheme for students of higher institutions to access free health services, which, according to him, is in tandem with the ‘Opportunities for All’ in the governor’s ‘MORE’ agenda.

Oghenesivwe urged the National Orientation Agency to assist in publicising the achievements of the present administration in the media, even as he assured that the state Bureau of Orientation would continue to partner NOA for the promotion of moral values in parents and youths.

Earlier, Mrs Ikolomi underscored the importance of partnering the State Orientation Bureau, especially considering their shared responsibilities in sensitising the public on behavioral and attitudinal changes, even as she outlined the various programmes that the National Orientation Agency plans to implement, as mandated by its Director-General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu.

She explained that one of it is ‘Say No To CLHEEAN’ which is an acronym that stands for Crime, Lawlessness, Healthcare Inaccessibility, Education Deprivation, Environmental Degradation, Abuse of all forms and Narcotics, and ‘The Citizens Value Charter,’ which aims to address the issue of declining values among citizens, and government’s obligation and responsiveness.
