United States of America has delivered military supplies to security agencies in support of ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the country.
Announcing the delivery in a post on X yesterday, the United States Africa Command, AFRICOM, said the deployment followed a Christmas Day air strike by the US against ISWAP in Sokoto, with President Donald Trump warning of further action against extremist groups accused of targeting Christians.
In October 2025, Trump declared Nigeria a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ over allegations of Christian genocide.
President Trump described Nigeria as a “disgraced” country and threatened to take military action should government continue to “allow the killing of Christians.”
AFRICOM said the delivery is intended to bolster Nigerian forces in counter-terrorism and security operations, and forms part of a broader US strategy to strengthen operational cooperation with regional partners in West Africa.
Nigeria has faced repeated attacks by armed groups in recent years.
The federal government is yet to issue a formal statement on the latest US support.
