In a rare display of interfaith harmony and inclusive leadership, the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Kebbi State Chapter, has conferred the “Most Loved Emir Award” on the Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi Mikailu Sami Gomo III, in recognition of his fairness, justice and non-discriminatory governance of  Zuru Emirate.

The award, presented during a well-attended Christmas service at the United Missionary Catholic Association, UMCA, Zuru, was described as a Christmas gift to a traditional ruler whose leadership style has continued to promote unity, peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among the diverse ethnic and religious communities in the emirate.

Presenting the award, the State Chairman Chairman of CAN, Dr Ayuba Yaji, who is also the Anglican Bishop of Zuru Diocese, said the honour was in acknowledgment of the emir’s exemplary leadership and strong connection with the people.

“This award is in recognition of Your Highness’ leadership, your deep connection with the people and your tireless commitment to unity, peace cultural preservation and community development across  Zuru Emirate,” Dr Yaji said.

He added that the emir’s open-door policy, spirit of accommodation and compassion towards all residents, regardless of faith or ethnicity, are qualities worthy of emulation by leaders at all levels.

In his response, the emir expressed gratitude to CAN and the Christian community for the honour, assuring all ethnic and religious groups of his continuous care and protection.

He stressed that every resident of the emirate is a bonafide indigene of Zuru and entitled to equal treatment.

The monarch called for prayers for sustained peace and unity in Kebbi State and Nigeria at large, while also appealing for divine intervention to end the menace of armed banditry affecting parts of the country.

Emir Gomo III also commended Governor Nasir Idris over what he described as detribalised and compassionate leadership, citing the ongoing reconstruction of  Koko–Zuru Federal Road as a critical intervention that would enhance security and economic activities in the area. He congratulated Christians on the Christmas celebration and prayed for their prosperity and wellbeing.

The emir was accompanied to the church by members of the Emirate Council and Islamic scholars, underscoring the spirit of interfaith solidarity that characterised the event.

Dignitaries at the ceremony include prominent Christian leaders and notable personalities, among them a former Chief of Army Staff and Sarkin Yakin Zuru, Lieutenant-General Isyaku  Bamaiyi (rtd), alongside the clergy and community leaders  across the emirate.
