The Chairman of DeliFresh Group of Companies and President of DeliFresh/Dunamis Football Club, Mr. Peter Monday, has reaffirmed his commitment to nurturing young football talents in Nigeria, with a vision to see them excel both in the sport and in life.
Mr. Monday made this known during the grand finale of the maiden Kingdom Unity Games Abuja (KUGA 2025), held at the Moshood Abiola Stadium on Saturday, where his club, DeliFresh/Dunamis FC, defeated ECWA Wumba 1–0 to lift the championship trophy.
Reflecting on the journey, he explained that football has always been a passion deeply rooted in his family. Though he stopped playing at age 39, his love for the game never waned.
“But over the years, there has been a lack of real support for football in Nigeria. Few structures, few laws guiding it, and limited opportunities especially when compared to what we see in other regions. That’s why we decided to start something right here, from the ground up.”
That decision gave birth to DeliFresh/Dunamis Football Club and several community-based football initiatives. The vision began with identifying raw talents from the streets of Abuja boys training anywhere they could find space, from Airport Road to neighbourhood pitches. These talents were brought together, nurtured, and given platforms to shine.
According to him, DeliFresh has successfully hosted tournaments along Airport Road, reaching multiple finals and even coming close to winning a major FCT championship before losing narrowly on penalties. “It showed us one thing football truly lives in the hearts of our youth,” he said.
Currently, DeliFresh is running two major competitions: The Community Chiefs’ Cup – fostering unity across neighbourhoods. The Staff Memorial Tournament – honouring the memory of a late colleague while promoting teamwork and resilience.
“These events are about more than just football,” “They represent unity, exposure, and identity. They’re putting our community on the map and giving young people something positive to believe in.” Mr. Monday emphasized.
Looking ahead, he said the DeliFresh Group remains focused on building sustainable structures for Nigerian football. “We’re taking it one day at a time, creating opportunities and opening doors. Our plans are big, and very soon, the impact will be even greater. This is only the beginning.”
