Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has formally registered as a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), confirming weeks of political speculation and reshaping the dynamics ahead of the 2027 elections.
The announcement was made through a post on X, where Abubakar shared images of himself receiving his ADC membership card along with a customised “Waziri 01” jersey.
The registration exercise took place in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, drawing supporters, party officials, and community leaders who gathered to witness the event. In the photos, Abubakar is seen lifting his membership form as supporters eagerly captured the moment.
“It’s official. – AA,” he wrote, signalling his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he had long held significant influence.
His move comes after insiders hinted that he would complete his registration during his birthday visit to Adamawa, which also featured community outreach engagements. Abubakar left the PDP earlier in 2025 and is expected to work towards establishing a strong opposition force ahead of the 2027 contest.
