Tragic boat accident occurred in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State, on Sunday, leaving at least 40 people missing.
The boat, carrying around 50 passengers, mostly traders heading to the weekly Goronyo market, capsized in Kojiyo village.
This latest incident has raised concerns about safety measures on Nigeria’s waterways.
The Sokoto State government, along with national emergency agencies, are working to rescue those affected and provide support to the families of the missing.
Chairman of Goronyo Local Government Council, Zubairu Yari expressed sadness over the incident.
“Hundreds have been killed by kidnappers and flooding is killing our people in numbers.”
