Latvian top-flight side BFC Daugavpils have completed the signing of Nigerian forward Joel Yakubu on loan from Czech club Slovan Liberec until the end of the current season.
The 20-year-old attacker joins the Virslīga outfit in search of regular first-team football and valuable top-level experience as he continues his development in European football.
Slovan Liberec approved the loan move as part of a clear development plan aimed at giving the young forward more consistent playing time in a competitive league environment.
Club officials believe the move will help Yakubu sharpen his match fitness, confidence and overall game exposure at the senior level.
Yakubu, who marked his 20th birthday just last week, is understood to be highly motivated and eager to make an immediate impact with his new club.
The Nigerian forward is now expected to link up with his new teammates at BFC Daugavpils, where he will be looking to prove himself and push for a breakthrough season in Latvia’s top division.
