From CHARLES ONYEKWERE
Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has reminded South East governors of the dangers posed by Fulani militia and suspected terrorists.
The group warned that they would hold governors in the region responsible if anything similar to the Benue massacre happens in the zone.
Ohanaeze said credible reports revealed that these armed groups had successfully infiltrated the South East, placing communities under potential siege.
The pan-lgbo group stated that residents of Enugu, Anambra and Ebonyi States had expressed concern over the increasing and clandestine nighttime movement of these militants crossing into their territories from Benue and Kogi States unchecked.
A statement issued yesterday by its factional Deputy President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, noted that the time for complacency had passed.
According to the statement, South East governors must wake up from their slumber.
“It is paramount that they take immediate and effective measures to thwart potential attacks against the Igbo populace in the weeks ahead.
“The unsettling reality that we face reinforces our fear: the South East is on the brink of becoming a target for grave terrorist atrocities. This pattern of invasion must be addressed with utmost urgency.
“If government at all levels continue to ignore these threats and maintain their conspiracy of silence, they will bear the consequences of the ensuing violence. Those in power must grasp the stark truth. We cannot afford to rely on ineffective security measures.
“Let this serve as a clarion call to all South East governors: You are failing in your duty to protect the people. If these infiltrators succeed in replicating the massacre seen in Benue, Igbos will hold you fully accountable for your inaction,” the statement said.
