Bauchi Govt Commits To Data-driven Governance 

BAUCHI GOVERNOR

Bauchi State Bureau of Statistics, BBS, has reaffirmed commitment to data-driven governance.

The Overseeing Statistician General, Esther Gagarab stated this at the State Consultative Committee on Statistics SCCS, meeting on Saturday in Bauchi.

The meeting was supported by CARE International under the Catalysing Strengthened Policy Action for Healthy Diets and Resilience, CASCADE.

The theme of meeting was ‘The Role of Bauchi Bureau of Statistics and SCCS in Promoting Inclusiveness of SDGs Indicators in Bauchi Projects.’

She underscored the importance of statistics in shaping effective and inclusive development, adding that the role of credible data in policy formulation, strategic planning and result oriented implementation.

According to Gagara, SCCS provides a vital platform to harmonise data activities across ministries, departments and agencies, promoting consistency, collaboration and eliminate duplication.

Speaking at the meeting, a lecturer at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, ATBU, Bauchi, Professor Abubakar Ahmed said data collection plays a vital role in promoting inclusiveness of the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs.

“Part of such role is providing insights into inequalities and disparities within societies and helping policy makers develop targeted interventions to address these gaps.

“It also enables evidence based decision making to ensure that development initiatives are inclusive and effective,” he said.

Also, Nelson Ngero advocated improved data for nutrition and health resilience involving several strategies.

This, he said, would ensure accurate and timely data on nutrition and health indicators.

On his part, the State Officer, National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, Bauchi, Mr Abduljabbbar Jimoh reiterated its commitment to partner members of the SCCS.

He said such working collaboration would promote a data-driven approach to inclusive, transparent and impactful development.
