Armed bandits have abducted seven students in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, with security agencies launching efforts to rescue the victims and track down the perpetrators.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday when the attackers reportedly invaded students’ residences on the outskirts of the Low-Cost Area and forcefully took the victims to an undisclosed location.
The attack was said to have taken place at about 4:00 a.m., throwing the affected community into panic as residents awoke to news of the abduction.
Confirming the development, the Zamfara State Police Command disclosed that one of the kidnapped students successfully escaped from the captors and has since been reunited with security authorities.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said security agencies responded swiftly after receiving reports of the attack.
According to him, joint police tactical teams and military personnel attached to Operation Fansar Yamma were immediately mobilised and deployed to the affected area to pursue the attackers and rescue the victims.
However, he noted that the assailants had already fled the scene before security operatives arrived.
Abubakar explained that security forces have intensified search-and-rescue operations across the area, with efforts focused on ensuring the safe release of the remaining abducted students and bringing those responsible for the crime to justice.
He assured residents that security agencies remain committed to resolving the situation and restoring calm in the affected community.
The police spokesperson also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful and credible information that could assist ongoing rescue operations.
He added that every available resource is being deployed to secure the release of the victims and prevent further attacks.
The Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state and pledged to keep the public informed as investigations and rescue efforts continue.
