The Anambra State Executive Council has approved a capital base of N200 billion for the newly established Anambra Development and Investment Corporation (ADIC), with the state government contributing 30 per cent of the initial capital to drive investment and economic growth.
The development was announced after the Executive Council meeting by the Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, who disclosed that selected government-owned assets would also be transferred to the corporation to strengthen its operations.
Mefor explained that ADIC would soon roll out a public-private partnership programme aimed at mobilising development finance and attracting both local and foreign investments into Anambra State.
According to him, the corporation has been designed to serve as an attractive investment platform for individuals and businesses interested in participating in the state’s economic expansion.
“Effective immediately, ADIC will operate as a highly favourable platform for both individual and corporate investors,” Mefor said.
The council also approved the commencement of the second edition of the Code Anambra Talents Mastery programme under the Solution Innovation District (SID), following what it described as the successful implementation of the maiden cohort.
The commissioner said the decision was influenced by the growing pool of technology talent within the state and the increasing global demand for digital expertise, innovation and emerging technology skills.
The Solution Innovation District, established by Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration, serves as Anambra’s flagship technology and innovation hub.
The initiative focuses on identifying, training, mentoring and supporting innovators, entrepreneurs, startups and technology companies in developing digital solutions capable of accelerating the state’s economic and technological development.
Mefor also announced that the Executive Council had reaffirmed the government’s declaration of a state of emergency on environmental sanitation as part of efforts to tackle worsening environmental degradation across the state.
He said the renewed commitment would be backed by stronger enforcement measures aimed at addressing indiscriminate waste disposal, blocked drainage systems and other environmental challenges contributing to flooding.
As part of the initiative, the government has scheduled a statewide environmental sanitation exercise for Saturday, July 4, 2026, between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
During the exercise, residents, businesses and communities throughout the state are expected to suspend movement and participate in environmental clean-up activities.
According to Mefor, the sanitation programme will also mark the official commencement of a large-scale desilting and waste evacuation campaign designed to reduce the risk of flooding during the rainy season.
In another decision reached during the meeting, the Executive Council approved the release of N315,460,777.41 to restore electricity supply to sections of Uli community in Ihiala Local Government Area and the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Chinweoke Mbadinuju Campus, Uli.
The commissioner noted that the intervention would improve electricity access for residents, students and businesses in the affected areas while supporting economic activities and academic operations.
