Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Anthony Adefuye, has urged parents to trust Lagos public schools for the education of their children and wards.
Adefuye said this at the 10th Lagos State House of Assembly Constituency Stakeholders Meeting in Shomolu Constituency 1.
He decried the practice of parents ignoring public schools for private schools, saying public schools offer better education than privately owned ones.
“Most private schools are substandard with unqualified teachers and unregulated school curriculum for students.
“I have gone round most government schools in Lagos and can confirm that they have good facilities and qualified teachers as in our days.
“Everyone wants to take their children to private schools even when they cannot afford the fees. This is not good at all.
“Check out the students with high scores in JAMB and SSCE examinations , most of them are from government schools,” he said.
He advised parents to use the money the high school fees in private schools for other useful things.
Speaking, the lawmaker representing the constituency, Mr Abiodun Orekoya assured the constituents that all the requests made at the meeting would be looked into for action.
“We have noted all your requests, it is a collective effort, we will assist in areas where the local government cannot touch,” he said.
He said the House would continue to support efforts to give constitutional roles to traditional and religious leaders.
The lawmaker promised to support people with disabilities in the constituency.
He also promised to light up all areas in Somolu to enhance security.
Orekoya awarded bursary to 147 students at the meeting.
He also gave N100,000 to three university students each for their outstanding academic performance.
Earlier in his address, the Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Mr Lateef Ashimi appreciated the lawmaker for representing the area well at the Assembly.
Ashimi also promised to do his best to impact the residents of the area.
