Bola Tinubu on Saturday participated in the presidential primary election of the All Progressives Congress at his polling ward in Ikoyi, Lagos State.
The president cast his vote alongside his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, as party members across the country took part in the APC direct primary election conducted nationwide.
Following the exercise, Tinubu emphasised the importance of active citizen participation in sustaining democracy, noting that democratic systems survive through institutions, committed party members, and grassroots engagement rather than public noise or political speculation.
“Today, I participated in the APC Presidential Direct Primary at my ward in Ikoyi, Lagos, alongside my dear wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON,” the president wrote on his official X account.
“Democracy is not sustained by noise, speculation, or borrowed platforms. It is sustained by citizens who show up, party members who believe, institutions that endure, the grassroots, and a political family rooted in the people,” he added.
The president further stated that the ruling APC remains committed to deepening democratic values and strengthening governance across Nigeria.
“The APC remains focused, organised and deeply grounded across Nigeria. Others may gather around the grievance. We gather around structure, service, and the work of nation-building,” Tinubu said.
“Together, we will continue to renew hope, strengthen our democracy, and build a stronger Nigeria for all.”
Tinubu was accompanied during the exercise by several top government officials and party leaders, including Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Sanwo-Olu commended the president’s leadership style and ongoing reforms, stating that Tinubu had continued to demonstrate courage and commitment through policies aimed at improving Nigeria’s democratic and economic systems.
According to the Lagos governor, the administration’s reforms are designed to stabilise the country’s political environment, strengthen democratic institutions, and improve economic conditions nationwide.
“His vision for a more stable, secure, and prosperous nation remains clear, and I am confident that better days are ahead for our country,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The governor also took part in the primary election, casting his vote at Ward E3, Eiyekole, Adeniji Adele on Lagos Island alongside other APC members.
The APC direct primary election was conducted simultaneously across Nigeria’s states as party members voted to determine the party’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.
