ECWA Nursing College’s Provost Receives African Academic Excellence Award

The Provost of ECWA College of Nursing Sciences, Egbe, Mrs Adeniyi Elizabeth Olutayo, has received the African Trailblazers Excellent Merit Award in Academic Excellence from the Unveiling African Parliament Writers Network in recognition of her outstanding contributions to nursing education and academic leadership.

The award, presented as part of the African Legislative Excellence Merit Awards 2026, honours individuals and institutions promoting people-centred development, educational advancement and support for vulnerable communities across Africa. Mrs Adeniyi was recognised for her transformative leadership and commitment to raising standards in nursing education in Nigeria.

Under her leadership, ECWA College of Nursing Sciences, Egbe, has emerged as one of the country’s leading nursing institutions, distinguished by excellent academic performance and practical, hands-on training. The college recently recorded a 100 per cent pass rate in professional examinations and has successfully conducted several convocations, further strengthening its reputation for excellence.

The awarding body commended the institution for combining high academic standards with strong ethical and professional values, producing graduates equipped for effective healthcare service delivery.

Mrs Adeniyi’s career in nursing spans more than 38 years, including over three decades in nursing education and six years in clinical practice. She has spent 32 years serving at the ECWA School, now College, of Nursing Sciences, Egbe.

Her qualifications include Registered Nurse, Registered Midwife and Registered Nurse Tutor certifications, alongside a Bachelor of Nursing Sciences degree and a Master’s degree in Reproductive Sciences. She has also been credited with promoting curriculum development, staff training and discipline among students, while strengthening professional ethics and practical competence.

The Unveiling African Parliament Writers Network, which comprises journalists from several African countries, said the award was aimed at recognising individuals and organisations making significant impacts in governance, education and public service delivery.

As part of activities surrounding the award, the organisation is also set to launch the African Trailblazers Magazine, a publication dedicated to profiling notable African achievers and innovators. Mrs Adeniyi is expected to feature in the maiden edition, where she will speak on her professional journey, philanthropy and the role of faith-based institutions in national development.
