Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei delivered his first public address on state television, calling for national unity while vowing to avenge the martyrs of the recent war.
In the statement, Khamenei expressed condolences to families who lost loved ones and promised compensation for damages caused by the conflict.
“We have to protect this unity and this is only possible when we are together and we find common ground,” he said.
The Supreme Leader linked the nation’s suffering to his own personal losses, revealing that his father (former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei), his wife, his sister’s child, and his sister’s husband were all killed in recent strikes.
“I lost my father, I lost my wife. My sister lost her child as well as her husband who has been martyred,” he said.
He stressed that faith and patience were essential to enduring the trials.
“But what makes it easier for us to endure all these plights is to trust the grace of God and to know that patience is going to resolve it.”
Khamenei assured the nation that revenge for the martyrs would come.
“I assure everyone that we will not ignore the fact that we are going to revenge our martyrs.
“It is not only about the fact that they martyred our supreme leader. And it is not only about him, it is about every single countryman that has been killed during the recent war.”
He praised citizens “from all walks of life who stood against the enemy” and emphasised collective resilience.
