Police is set to impound vehicles with unauthorised govt official, National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, number plates

The police in Ondo State  reiterated its commitment to impound any vehicle using unauthorised government official or NANS number plates.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Adebowale Lawal,  made this known while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, yesterday, regarding efforts to reduce the crime rate in the state.

Lawal, who was recently deployed to the state, said  the rate of crime had  reduced due to the robust collaboration of  sister agencies and residents.

He said  there are indications that some people are using fake and unauthorised number plates to perpetrate crimes in the state, stressing that they should  desist or face the full wrath of the law.

“Recently, we discovered that people are fixing tgovernment plate numbers on their vehicles.

“We arrested somebody who fixed  government’s plate number, under the guise of being a government official and he was not even working there. He just fixed it on his vehicle.

“By the time the vehicle was impounded and searched, we recovered some drugs.

“That of NANS, they just fix their number, so that when you see them, if you are not courageous enough, you will not be able to stop and search.

“If you don’t have the authority to carry those numbers, please don’t use them. Don’t fix it on your vehicles, because it will be impounded.

“We don’t want anybody under the guise of fixing government’s plate number to use it to perpetrate  crime,” he said.

Lawal called on Nigerians to join hands with the police to fight crime and thanked the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for their support in combating crime and criminality on the waterways and interland.

Our priority is the safety of the  people of the state, to protect their lives and properties, so that government’s vision   will come to fruition,” he said.
