Jigawa State government delegation led by Governor Umar Namadi held a strategic partnership meeting with the Chairman of Alliance for  Green Revolution in Africa, AGRA, Mr Hailemariam Dessalegn, on the sidelines of the ongoing Africa Food Systems Summit in Dakar, Senegal.

The high-level discussion centered on strengthening collaboration to accelerate agricultural transformation in Jigawa State, with particular focus on key areas critical to the state’s agrarian economy.

The discussions focused on exploring practical strategies to boost productivity, strengthen market access and enhance the competitive capacity of rice and wheat farmers; aligning policies, institutional frameworks and good governance practices to attain sustainable agricultural growth and adopt peer-to-peer knowledge-sharing platforms designed to empower small-scale farmers and promote innovation within farming communities.

Namadi highlighted Jigawa State’s commitment to leverage global partnerships to advance food security, modernise agricultural practices and kindle inclusive economic growth, saying  agriculture remains a central pillar of his administration’s 12-point agenda under the vision of building a Greater Jigawa.

He noted that Jigawa is already Nigeria’s leading producer of wheat, rice, sesame and hibiscus flower, among other key crops, adding that the state government will continue to build on the success of its ongoing agricultural initiatives to utilise the full potentials of Jigawa’s vast arable land and resilient farming population.

Africa Food Systems Summit 2025  held in Dakar, Senegal, from September  1 to 4.

The delegation include the Commissioners for Agriculture and Livestock Development, directors-general of Jigawa State Agricultural Transformation Agency, Jigawa State Agricultural Research Institute,  Invest Jigawa, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Intergovernmental Affairs.
