The National Coordinator and CEO of AUDA-NEPAD Nigeria, Hon. Jabiru Salisu Abdullahi, has pledged the Agency’s full support for the operationalisation of the Kampala Convention Domestication Bill 2025, once assented to by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He gave this assurance while receiving a delegation led by Mr. Hamza Baba, Programme Manager of GEEP, alongside officials from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the National Commission for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons.

Discussions focused on Nigeria’s leading role in the domestication of the Kampala Convention, making it one of only two African countries at the forefront of implementing the AU legal instrument for the protection of internally displaced persons. Mr. Baba appealed for AUDA-NEPAD Nigeria to champion the next steps of implementation when the Bill becomes law.

Hon. Abdullahi reaffirmed that the domestication process would be included in Nigeria’s Country Report to the African Union, to feature in Mr. President’s address at the AU Summit in Addis Ababa in February 2026. He also noted that this effort aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly his commitment to uphold and domesticate all multilateral and bilateral agreements in support of national development.

The meeting concluded with a renewed call for stronger collaboration between AUDA-NEPAD Nigeria, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and relevant stakeholders to ensure effective and inclusive implementation of the Convention.
