Former Kano State Governor and immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, was inaugurated as the Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in Abuja, just days after resigning from his APC leadership role on June 27, 2025, citing health concerns.
The appointment, initially made by President Bola Tinubu in January 2025, was formalized during the official inauguration of the reconstituted FAAN board, led by Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo, per Daily Post Nigeria and Naija News.
The board, comprising eight members from the Ministries of Aviation, Tourism, and Defence, as well as FAAN’s Managing Director/CEO Olubunmi Kuku, aims to enhance airport operations amid ongoing reforms.
Ganduje’s swift transition to this role has sparked speculation, with sources suggesting Tinubu’s move to appoint him was partly to offset political pressure from Ganduje’s rivalry with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, whom Tinubu is reportedly wooing into the APC ahead of 2027, per Independent Newspaper Nigeria.
