Benue State Police Command has warned against holding protests, noting that it will distract its ongoing operations against criminals.

The command in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Edet Udeme, yesterday in Makurdi, while reacting to a protest allegedly organised by Agan women in Makurdi Local Government Area, said it is currently carrying out clearance operations to ensure the safety of lives and property.

She noted that the operations have yielded results, with several suspects arrested and criminal hideouts destroyed in various parts of the state, including Apa, Guma, Gwer-west and Sankera axis.

The PPRO urged the public to support their operations by providing useful information instead of distracting them with protests.

She said protests could distract the police from engaging criminals, thereby creating room for criminality to thrive, adding that it could be hijacked by hoodlums to perpetuate mayhem.

The PPRO reaffirmed the command’s commitment to create lasting peace in the state, disclosing that the police is equally working in synergy with sister security agencies and the state government to ensure that the people enjoy peace.

She said the command has warned members of the public to desist from joining any form of protest that could endanger lives, as well as cause unnecessary distraction to the ongoing police operation in the state, urging them to remain law abiding.
