As the excitement builds with only 9 days remaining until Abuja 2025 kicks off on July 23 the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has stepped forward with vital financial support to ensure the 14th African Armwrestling Championship and 7th Para-Armwrestling Championship succeed in grand style.
In a powerful gesture of solidarity, NOC President Engr. Habu Gumel personally announced a financial boost at the weekend, confirming the Olympic body’s commitment to complementing the efforts of the Nigeria Armwrestling Federation, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) and the National Sports Commission (NSC) in delivering a world-class event.
This comes just days after the NOC’s executive meeting in April reaffirmed its broader role in nurturing continental sports—including backing championships like Abuja 2025 .
Hon. Adeboye Anthony Adeyinka, LOC Chairman and SSA to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, hailed the support as pivotal:
“With NOC’s backing, we’re no longer just hosting—we’re staging excellence. This support accelerates our infrastructure, broadcast, and athlete welfare plans.”
NOC’s investment will reinforce critical media functions—live streaming, press facilities, graphics, and athlete interviews—ensuring unmatched coverage and storytelling for over 400 athletes and officials from 24 African nations, Adeboye concluded.
With 9 days to go, Abuja is now firmly on the continent’s spotlight, joining the roster of cities with national Olympic backing for major sporting events as the momentum is unstoppable. Partners like AFA, National Sports Commission and the Nigerian Navy are united behind the vision—and now, with the NOC’s financial commitment, Abuja is set to elevate the championship into Africa’s strongest sporting showcase ever.
