3 Team Ogun Football players To Play For Under-20 Flying Eagles – Commissioner

Three football players in Team Ogun who participated in the recently concluded National Sports Festival in the state, have been invited to join the Under- 20 Nigeria’s Flying Eagles at the National Camp, Abuja.

The three footballer were picked after observation of the final football match between Team Ogun and Team Kwara held at the MKO Abiola Sporting Arena, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Commissioner for Sports Development in the state, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka has disclosed this while playing host to the ‘Keep Fit Team’, who were on a courtesy visit to his office, led by a former Permanent Secretary in the State Civil Service, Alhaji Waheed Badru.

Isiaka who maintained that such opportunities were one of the major takeaways from the festival where we discovered several talents that have been invited to various National Camps, said that the Governor Dapo Abiodun led administration would not relent its oars to support sporting activities in the state.

“Three football players that represented the State in the football final against team Kwara have been invited to Nigeria’s Flying Eagles Under-20 National Camp in Abuja. This is one of the major takeaways from the festival where we discovered several talents that have been invited to various National Camps,” he said

The Commissioner also explained the government’s plan to partner private sector on the maintenance and development of the newly remodeled stadium facilities so that the big amount of money invested in the renovation by the current administration would not go down the drain.

He explained that the government did not just invest in sports development, only to close them down after the games, but for the use of its citizens, stressing that, the National Sports Festival was in three phases: the facilities, hosting and participation of Team Ogun, which he described as a resounding success.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Team, Alh. Badru appreciated the State Government for the total transformation of the MKO Abiola Sports Arena and the Alake Sports Centre, saying it was a transformation of the sports landscape in the State.

While appealing for a regular maintenance of the world-class sporting facilities available at the Stadium, Alhaji Badru informed the Commissioner of the group’s intention to celebrate its anniversary.

“The Keep Fit group was established during the military regime and it has been maintained till date. Our activities is on Tuesdays and the Stadium main bowl is the venue. Our anniversary would be celebrated in August and we have come to seek the indulgence of the Sports Ministry to use the Stadium for our anniversary,” he added.
