World Archery Names Abdullahi Among Commonwealth Games Committee Members

World Archery has officially confirmed five new appointments to its Commonwealth Games Committee, signaling a renewed commitment to global representation ahead of future international competitions.

Among the newly appointed members is Mr. Mohammed Baba Abdullahi of Nigeria, President of the Nigeria Archery Federation, making Nigeria one of the represented nations on the committee. Abdullahi also serves as the Deputy Secretary-General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC).

In a letter dated May 15, 2026, addressed to the Committee Chairman, Mr. Robert Fiddyment, World Archery Secretary General Mr. Raul Calin, writing on behalf of the federation, confirmed the final committee roster approved by the World Archery Executive Board (WAEB).

The newly appointed committee members, each representing different regions, bring extensive international experience and expertise to the committee. They are:

  • Mr. Mohammed Baba Abdullahi (Nigeria)
  • Mr. Karl Balisch (Archery Canada)
  • Ms. Trina Roberts
  • Ms. Ainsley Ward (Scottish Archery)
  • Mr. Virendra Sachdeva (Delhi Archery Association, India)

In addition to the five members, World Archery also confirmed that Mr. Juan Carlos Holgado will continue serving as the federation’s liaison officer to the committee.

“We look forward to these individuals contributing to the activities of your committee,” Calin stated in the official correspondence, underscoring the federation’s confidence in the newly constituted team to advance the development and integration of archery within the Commonwealth Games framework.

The appointments come at a crucial period as World Archery continues to advocate for stronger inclusion of archery in future Commonwealth Games programmes, ensuring world-class technical oversight, governance, and strategic development through experienced global administrators.
