Two people have been killed in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, while four suspected attackers were reportedly neutralised during a separate confrontation in Jos South Local Government Area, the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) has said.
The group made the disclosure in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, condemning what it described as persistent attacks on communities and urging security agencies to take decisive action.
According to the association, the latest attack occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the Zargwok community of Gashish District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, where armed men allegedly opened fire on residents.
BYM stated that two members of the community, identified as 33-year-old Ayuba Danladi and 35-year-old Luka Macham, were killed during the incident while reportedly carrying out community patrol duties.
The association said the bodies of the victims had been deposited at the ECWA Clinic.
The youth group also responded to an earlier claim by the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), which alleged that four of its members were killed around the Gero–Rafin Bauna axis in Jos South Local Government Area.
According to BYM, the four deceased individuals were allegedly among a group that attacked a mining site in Nyango, Gyel District, on June 29.
The association claimed that the attackers opened fire on miners at the site, killing three people and injuring two others.
It further alleged that local vigilante members responded to the attack, leading to a confrontation during which four of the suspected assailants were killed, while others reportedly escaped.
BYM called on security agencies to properly identify those involved in both incidents and carry out a comprehensive, transparent and impartial investigation.
The association also urged the authorities to strengthen security around vulnerable communities, ensure those responsible for the attacks are brought to justice and restore public confidence in the protection of lives and property.
As of the time this report was filed, efforts to obtain the reaction of the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful.
