A great man was born today. Over fifty years ago, in the ancient city of Osogbo, a boy was born who would grow to become one of the most intellectually grounded and politically strategic leaders of our time. That young boy would rise through discipline, hard work, and uncommon brilliance to become a distinguished lawyer, scholar, PhD holder, and one of the leading voices within Nigeria’s political landscape, Senator Dr. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru.
Barrister Basiru is not an ordinary man.
He is a refined gentleman, a family man, a brilliant strategist, and a goal getter whose leadership style continues to inspire many of us. What stands him apart is not just his intellect or impressive credentials, but his approach to leadership.
I deeply admire his leadership style, one defined by calmness, clarity, courage, strategic thinking, and an unwavering commitment to results. He leads with purpose, conviction, and a deep understanding of both people and policy.
In politics, where noise often overshadows substance, Senator Basiru has consistently distinguished himself through competence, loyalty, and substance. Whether as Attorney General of Osun State, Senator representing Osun Central, or now as National Secretary of the All-Progressives Congress (APC), he has demonstrated capacity, discipline, and an admirable sense of duty to our great party and our nation.
His contributions to the growth, stability, and administrative strength of the APC remain significant. At such a crucial time in our party’s journey, his steady hands, political wisdom, and organizational competence continue to strengthen the foundation for future victories.
Beyond politics, his academic and professional achievements reflect the excellence he embodies. From law to public service, Senator Basiru has shown that preparation, knowledge, and hard work remain essential ingredients of enduring leadership.
As he marks another year today, this celebration also comes with deep reflection. The recent passing of his beloved mother makes this birthday especially emotional. We pray for the peaceful repose of her soul and ask Almighty God to grant him and his family comfort, strength, and peace in this difficult time.
