Sokoto Assembly Okays Construction Of 12km Road

Sokoto State House of Assembly has adopted a motion for the construction of a 12-kilometre access road linking Bodinga and Yabo Local Government Areas.

The development followed a joint motion moved by Speaker Tukur Bala and Alhaji Abubakar Shehu, and seconded by Alhaji Awaisu Aliyu, during yesterday’s plenary.

While presenting the motion, Shehu emphasised the importance of road construction and rehabilitation in alleviating the suffering of the people.

“Thus, the necessity of constructing the proposed 12km road  beginning from Gidan Gabas, linking Rinaye, Danabarbare, and Tandarawa in Bodinga, to Kamfatare in Yabo cannot be overemphasised,” he stated.

The lawmaker explained that the road would significantly enhance agricultural activities in the surrounding farming communities.

“This, in turn, will boost  commercial activities, as most inhabitants of these areas engage in  rainy and dry season farming,” he added.

Shehu also highlighted the project as a step towards the fulfillment of one of the ‘Nine-point Smart Agenda’ of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration.

According to him, the road will not only ease the transportation of goods and services, but also improve access to healthcare by facilitating the movement of patients from  rural areas to  urban medical centres.

Several lawmakers, who contributed to the debate, described the proposal as timely and aligned with  government’s commitment to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.

Presiding over the session, the Deputy speaker, Alhaji Kabiru Ibrahim put the motion to a voice vote and it was unanimously adopted by the House. (NAN)
