Vice-President Kashim Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Sunday departed Abuja for Freetown, Sierra Leone, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 69th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The regional summit is scheduled to hold at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre in Freetown on Sunday, July 19.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Shettima will join Heads of State, senior government officials, political leaders and business stakeholders from across West Africa and beyond for the high-level meeting.

The summit is expected to deliberate on critical regional issues, including peace and security, democratic governance, economic development and deeper regional integration.

Leaders at the meeting are also expected to consider key policy decisions and strategic resolutions aimed at strengthening cooperation among ECOWAS member states.

The gathering will reaffirm the commitment of West African leaders to promoting sustainable development, economic growth and political stability across the sub-region.

Ministers, senior government officials and representatives of regional institutions are also expected to participate in discussions focused on advancing the bloc’s shared priorities.

The agenda includes measures to strengthen trade, improve regional security and enhance economic integration among member countries.

The summit comes at a time when ECOWAS continues to address security challenges, democratic transitions and efforts to boost economic cooperation within the region.
