A pregnant woman and a young man have been killed following a fresh attack by gunmen on Dyan community in Rim Village, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Residents said the assailants invaded the community at about 10 p.m. on Friday and opened fire, killing two people and leaving the community in grief.
The victims were identified as Happiness Pam, a 32-year-old pregnant woman, and Daniel Luka, a 24-year-old resident.
Reacting to the incident, the Berom Youth Moulders Association condemned the killings, describing the attack as brutal and unacceptable.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, the association expressed shock and sadness over the latest violence, noting that insecurity continues to threaten lives and livelihoods in Riyom and other parts of Plateau State.
“It is heartbreaking that a pregnant woman carrying the hope of a family and an innocent young man with a promising future became victims of yet another senseless act of violence.
“These killings represent not only an attack on individuals but also an assault on the collective peace, security and humanity of our people,” the statement said.
The group extended its condolences to the families of the deceased, as well as residents of Dyan community, Rim Village and the wider Riyom Local Government Area.
The association also called on security agencies to intensify efforts to track down those responsible for the attack and ensure they are brought to justice.
It further urged both the Federal Government and the Plateau State Government to adopt stronger measures to safeguard vulnerable communities from recurring attacks.
Meanwhile, BYM expressed concern over another security incident involving the reported abduction of two drivers along the Kassa axis of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
According to the association, the victims were travelling through the area at about 10 p.m. on Thursday when armed men intercepted and abducted them.
The group appealed to security agencies to intensify rescue operations and strengthen surveillance along major roads and communities affected by criminal activities.
Residents were also advised to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary late-night travel through vulnerable routes where possible.
BYM reaffirmed its support for lawful initiatives aimed at restoring peace, security and stability across Plateau State.
