Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its fight against crime.
It arrested suspected armed robbers, recovered a stolen Mercedes Benz GLK and seized dangerous firearms along with other stolen items.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who disclosed this to newsmen yesterday, said the operation, carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, dealt a crushing blow to criminal gangs in the state through coordinated intelligence-led actions.
According to Edafe, “On August 5 at about 5:40pm, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, of B Division Asaba, CSP Edewor Akponegware received credible intelligence about a suspected stolen Mercedes Benz GLK (registration number NZM 10 AP) being offered for sale at a parking lot on former Deputy Road, Asaba.
“The DPO led the Division’s Crime Branch to the scene and arrested Chinedu Eze, who claimed ownership of the vehicle.
Investigations revealed that it had been snatched at gunpoint in April 2023 at Abakpa, Enugu State, during which the owner was shot. The vehicle, registered in April 2023 and again in 2025, has been recovered.”
Edafe disclosed that “on August 4 at about 4:30am, a distress call alerted Ogwashi-Ukwu Police Station about a robbery along Chelsea Street. The DPO, CSP Okoyomon Israel, mobilised the Anti-Crime Squad and local vigilantes to the scene and arrested two suspects, 22-year-old Thywill Selvin of Poly Road, Ogwashi-Ukwu, and 32-year-old Guntim Bako of Kwale Junction.
“Recovered from the suspects were one pump action rifle with one live cartridge, one Beretta pistol with six live ammunition, three live assault rifle ammunition, one Daylong motorcycle (Reg. No. SAP 369 VK), one Qlink motorcycle (Reg. No. URM 750 QV), 25 mobile phones, four laptops, one tablet phone, a PS4 console, a home theatre set, two Zealot music players, five bags of clothes and other valuables. Several victims have since identified their stolen properties.”
CP Abaniwonda commended the swift and professional response of his operatives, attributing the successes to timely information from the public.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven operations aimed at flushing criminals out of the state.
He urged residents to promptly report suspicious persons or activities, emphasising that “early reporting is key to preventing crime.”
