Police Officer Killed In Hit-and-run Incident In Gombe

Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the death of one of its officers, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Clement Yunana, following a fatal hit-and-run accident at Tumfure area of Akko Local Government Area.

The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, July 17 around 5pm, directly opposite Matrix Fueling Station.

In a statement signed yesterday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, preliminary investigations revealed that an unidentified vehicle, travelling from the Bauchi Road axis toward Gombe metropolis, knocked down ASP Yunana as he attempted to cross the road. 

The driver fled the scene without stopping or offering any assistance.

ASP Yunana, aged 50, was attached to the Railway Police Outstation under Bajoga Division in Gombe State. 

He was immediately rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, where he was admitted for emergency treatment but was sadly pronounced dead due to the severity of his injuries.

The Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command, has ordered a full-scale investigation and launched a manhunt to identify and apprehend the fleeing driver. 

He also appealed to members of the public to provide any useful information that could aid the investigation and lead to the arrest of the suspect.

The command expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late officer.

 ASP Yunana was described as a dedicated and selfless professional whose service and sacrifice to the nation will never be forgotten.
