Police Identify Female Corpse Dumped In Gashua

Yobe State Police Command has identified the corpse of a woman whose lifeless body was found lying along the road leading to the Federal University, Gashua, in Bade Local Government Area.

Spokesman of the command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, in a statement on Saturday in Damaturu, said on receipt of the report, a team of police operatives from Gashua Division swiftly visited the scene for on-the-spot assessment.

“On October 17, at about 0700hrs, the command received a report from  Yusuf Sarkin Baka, a resident of Sabon Daula Ward, Bade Local Government Area, concerning a lifeless female body discovered near the fence of the Federal University Gashua,” the statement said.

It added that the victim, identified as Falmata Abubakar, aged 45 and resident in Abasha, Sarkin Hausawa Ward, Gashua, was found dressed in a black hijab.

The body was immediately evacuated to the Specialist Hospital, Gashua, where it was examined and confirmed dead by a medical doctor. 

The command said preliminary investigation was initiated and the corpse released to her family after autopsy for proper burial according to Islamic rites.

Further investigation revealed that the deceased was transported in a vehicle and dumped at the location where she was found, approximately two kilometres away from her residence. 

The statement said the new finding had intensified efforts by detectives to identify and apprehend the perpetrators behind the act.

The  Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado assured the public of a thorough and professional investigation aimed at uncovering the circumstances surrounding the incident and bringing those responsible to justice.

The commissioner called for calm and cooperation from members of the public, urging anyone with useful information related to the case to report to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency contacts.

The command reiterated its commitment to public safety, protection of lives and property, and maintaining peace and order across the state.
