Yobe State Police Command has intensified security operations ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, assuring residents of adequate protection of lives and property.

The  Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado stated this during a meeting with operations commanders, including heads of departments, area and tactical commanders, as well as divisional police officers, to conclude security arrangements for the festivals.

Ado informed that from January to December, the command recorded the arrest of 428 suspects for various crimes, including kidnapping, armed robbery and homicide, in addition to 298 arrests for minor offences like theft and public disturbances.

He disclosed that while many suspects had been arraigned in court, some cases are still under investigation.

Ado commended the efforts of police personnel in maintaining public safety, urging them to continue their diligent work despite ongoing security challenges.

He emphasised the importance of  heightened security presence in worship centers, schools, recreational areas and markets, particularly as academic institutions prepare to resume on January 15, 2026.

In a bid to ensure a secure festive period, the police command has initiated a comprehensive operational order in collaboration with other security agencies.

The commissioner urged officers to intensify proactive policing, including enhanced patrols and the targeting of known criminal hideouts, to eliminate  safe havens for criminal activities.

Highlighting the role of community involvement, Ado reiterated the significance of community policing and collaboration with the public.

He also ordered the suspension of  leave for police officers until further notice to ensure full operational capacity for the  festive season.

Furthermore, the command said it would improve its response to distress calls and individuals without legitimate entitlement to police escorts have been advised to  exercise patience, as officers on unauthorised duties will be reassigned.

The police chief called for continued cooperation with law enforcement and encouraged community members to remain vigilant and report  suspicious activities.

The command assured residents that thorough security measures are in place to ensure a safe festive period.
