The African Democratic Congress senatorial candidate for Benue South, Dr David Olofu, has urged the Federal Government and the Benue State Government to strengthen security in vulnerable communities following fresh attacks by suspected armed herders in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
Olofu made the call in a statement on Sunday while reacting to the attacks on Otukpo-Nobi community in Okete District and Akpachi-Ugboju, which claimed no fewer than nine lives.
He described the attacks as unacceptable and lamented what he called the persistent killings across communities in Benue South Senatorial District.
The ADC senatorial candidate called on security agencies to intensify efforts to protect lives and property, apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they are prosecuted to prevent further attacks.
“The Federal Government and the Benue State Government must accord urgent priority to the protection of vulnerable communities in Benue South against the unrelenting attacks by suspected murderous herdsmen,” he said.
According to him, “Every necessary effort must be mobilised to secure our communities and preserve the sanctity of human life.”
Olofu commiserated with the families of those killed in the attacks and prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls.
He also prayed that God would grant the bereaved families and the affected communities the strength to bear the losses.
