An Army officer, Lieutenant F.A. Isaac, has reportedly died during the military operation that secured the rescue of 44 abducted pupils and teachers from the Old Oyo National Park.
The victims were freed on July 10, 2026, following a coordinated rescue mission involving multiple security agencies after spending several days in captivity.
According to reports, Lieutenant Isaac lost his life while carrying out the operation and was buried on the same day.
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier disclosed that the military recorded a casualty during the rescue mission.
The late officer was said to be among the personnel leading efforts to rescue the abducted pupils and teachers when he sustained fatal injuries in the line of duty.
The pupils and teachers were abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on or about June 6, 2026, before they were eventually rescued by security operatives after weeks in captivity.
