The Counsel, Barrister Tolu Babaleye of the elected President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW , Comrade Ibikunle Baruwa has called on President Ahmed Tinubu to direct the Inspector General of Police to arrest the illegal occupants of the National Office.
The Barrister who made this call in a press conference in Abuja, urged President Tinubu to restore Baruwa to his rightful position as affirmed by the Court of Appeal.
He explained that Baruwa emerged as the authentic National President through a lawful electoral process.
According to him, despite attempts to subvert the mandate, he sought refuge in the temple of justice.
He added that after a rigorous legal battle, he secured three (3) landmark judgments from the National Industrial Court and the Court of Appeal, noting that the judgments unequivocally affirmed his leadership.
He stated that President Tinubu should order a full investigation into the role of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in the brazen subversion of court orders on March 24, 2026.
He charged the President to reaffirms his commitment to the rule of law not just by words, but by decisive action that demonstrates that no individual, no matter how connected, is above the Constitution.
“We call on the President to: Immediately direct the Inspector General of Police to arrest the illegal occupants of the NURTW National Office and restore Comrade Ibikunle Baruwa to his rightful position as affirmed by the Court of Appeal.
“Order a full investigation into the role of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in the brazen subversion of court orders on March 24, 2026.
“Reaffirm his commitment to the rule of law not just by words, but by decisive action that demonstrates that no individual, no matter how connected, is above the Constitution,” he noted
Further speaking, Barrister Babaleye noted that refusal to stand by the judicial system is raped and the constitution is set ablaze.
He called on the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the National Judicial Council (NJC), civil society organizations, and all lovers of democracy to condemn the descent into anarchy.
“If a man with three favorable judgments from the National Industrial Court and the Court of Appeal cannot take his office without being arrested and replaced by a non-contestant under military escort, then the democracy we profess to practice is a sham,”he said .
