Nigeria’s national cricket team, the Yellow Greens, were crowned champions of the West Africa Trophy following a thrilling final on Sunday evening at Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
After winning the toss, Nigeria elected to bat first and put up an impressive performance, posting a competitive total of 158 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Rwanda, chasing the target, struggled to find momentum as they failed to build meaningful partnerships and were eventually bowled out for 118 runs within the same overs.
The victory capped a dominant campaign for the Yellow Greens, who won nine of their ten matches during the two-week championship, underlining their superiority throughout the tournament.
Speaking after the triumph, team captain Sulaimon Runsewe attributed the success to the players’ hard work, discipline, and unwavering commitment to the team’s objectives.
The West Africa Trophy featured four teams—host nation Nigeria, Rwanda, Zambia, and Sierra Leone—and was contested over ten days of intense and entertaining cricket action
