The Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) has reaffirmed that Nigeria’s hosting rights for the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) remain fully intact and are in no way affected by the reported disagreement between the Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF) and the African Golf Confederation (AGC).
In a statement Signed by Director of Communications 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT), Kayode Adeniyi on Friday in Abuja
According to the statement, the prestigious continental women’s amateur golf championship will take place as scheduled from 2–7 November 2026 at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, with LGAN leading the Local Organising Committee on behalf of Nigeria.
The championship has already attracted registrations from more than 30 African countries, underscoring the confidence of participating nations in Nigeria’s preparedness to host one of Africa’s premier women’s sporting events.
Reacting to speculation that the disagreement between the Nigeria Golf Federation and the African Golf Confederation could jeopardize Nigeria’s hosting rights, the President of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria and Chairperson of the AACT 2026 Local Organising Committee, Dr. Lami Ahmed, dismissed the reports as false, misleading and without any factual basis.
«”There is absolutely no truth in the rumour that the disagreement between the Nigeria Golf Federation and the African Golf Confederation will result in the suspension, cancellation or withdrawal of Nigeria’s hosting rights for the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy.»
«”It is important to clarify that the All Africa Challenge Trophy is governed by the All Africa Challenge Trophy Association (AACTA), which is the continental body responsible for women’s amateur golf under the AACT framework. The African Golf Confederation (AGC), on the other hand, is the continental governing body for men’s golf and organizes its own separate championship.»
«”These are two distinct organisations with different mandates and competitions. It is therefore incorrect to associate issues concerning one organisation with the operations or hosting of the other.”»
Dr. Ahmed further assured participating countries, sponsors, partners and stakeholders that preparations for the championship are progressing according to schedule and that Nigeria remains committed to delivering a world-class tournament that will further strengthen women’s golf across Africa.
She added that hosting the championship aligns with the Federal Government’s sports development agenda under the leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC), particularly the reforms being championed by Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade, which encourage Nigeria to host major international sporting events as a means of promoting national image, sports tourism, youth development and international cooperation.
The Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria therefore urges the public and the media to disregard any misinformation suggesting that Nigeria’s hosting rights have been affected, while reaffirming its commitment to successfully hosting a memorable and historic 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy.
