The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has dismissed a purported recruitment update currently circulating across various social media platforms, describing it as false and unauthorised.
The Service cautioned Nigerians against engaging with the misleading publication, stressing that it was not issued by the agency and does not represent any official recruitment exercise.
The warning comes amid recurring cases of recruitment fraud in Nigeria, where scammers exploit the public’s interest in government employment by circulating fake job advertisements and demanding money from unsuspecting applicants.
Over the years, several government institutions and security agencies have repeatedly alerted Nigerians to verify recruitment announcements before responding to them.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Nigeria Customs Service stated that the viral recruitment information did not originate from the organisation.
“The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) wishes to inform the public that the purported recruitment update currently circulating on some social media platforms is fake and did not originate from the Service,” the statement read.
The Service advised members of the public to ignore the publication entirely and avoid sharing or acting on such unverified information.
According to the statement, all official announcements relating to the agency’s activities, including recruitment, would only be communicated through its verified platforms.
“Members of the public are advised to disregard the publication and rely only on information disseminated through the official communication channels of the Nigeria Customs Service,” the agency stated.
To help Nigerians identify authentic updates, the Service listed its verified communication platforms.
These include its official Facebook page, Nigeria Customs Service, as well as its verified social media accounts on Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), Threads and TikTok, all operating under the handle @customsng.
The agency also urged citizens to exercise caution when interacting with information online, particularly regarding employment opportunities.
It encouraged members of the public to verify any recruitment announcement through official sources before taking any action.
The statement concluded with a reminder to remain vigilant against fraudsters seeking to exploit unsuspecting job seekers.
“Stay vigilant. Verify information before sharing,” the Service added.
