The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), providing candidates across Nigeria and selected foreign countries access to their performance in the examination.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations of the council, Mr Azeez Sani.
According to Sani, a total of 186,291 candidates registered for the examination across 12 subjects.
He disclosed that the candidates were drawn from the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and five foreign countries.
Sani explained that the examination commenced on April 20 and was successfully concluded on April 30, 2026.
He stated that the results were released after the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
According to him, the meeting was chaired by the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, who was represented by the Director of Basic Education in the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr Folake Olatunji-David.
The acting spokesperson added that the meeting was attended by secondary school principals from different parts of the country as well as members of NECO’s management team.
Sani further disclosed that the award committee approved July 22 and July 23, 2026, for the conduct of the BECE resit examination in Mathematics and English Studies.
He explained that the resit examination is specifically designed for candidates who recorded conditional deficiencies in Mathematics, English Studies or both subjects.
According to him, the initiative will provide affected candidates with another opportunity to address the deficiencies and obtain the certification required for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School One (SSS I).
Sani noted that the resit arrangement would enable eligible candidates to secure the necessary qualifications without having to repeat an entire academic session.
The release of the 2026 BECE results marks the completion of the examination process for candidates seeking progression from the basic education level to senior secondary education across the country.
