Tanko Habila, father of the late Miss Mary Habila, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), demanding the immediate release of his daughter’s remains for burial.
Habila, accompanied by his wife, other family members and their lawyers, submitted the petition at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Friday before addressing journalists.
The family said it was saddened that nearly two weeks after Mary Habila’s death, the Ebonyi State Police Command had yet to release her body for burial.
According to her father, the family is not interested in conducting an autopsy and only wants to lay their daughter to rest.
“As we are standing here, somebody can fall and die. It has happened. All we want is her body to be buried,” he said.
The petition comes amid ongoing public interest in the circumstances surrounding the nurse’s death at a residence linked to the Minister of Works, David Umahi.
